SAM.gov updates and January 25 Unique Entity ID Webinar (sent January 21, 2022)

2021–22 Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), Title II: Adult Education Family Literacy Act (AEFLA)

Dear Adult Educators:

On April 4, 2022, the U.S. Department of Education will join other Federal agencies and transition to utilizing the new Unique Entity ID for grant recipient and applicant organizations, rather than the previously utilized DUNS Number. The Unique Entity ID is administered through SAM.gov (System for Award Management).

Organizations that have already registered a DUNS with SAM.gov have now been assigned a Unique Entity ID in that system. Entities that do not have a registered DUNS in SAM.gov should ensure that they are registered well before the switch takes place. We recommend that organizations initiate the process with SAM.gov no later than March 1, 2022, as it may take some time for registration to be completed.

For detailed information about this change, please refer to the Fact Sheet found here: UEI Transition Fact Sheet.

An active SAM.gov registration is required in order to receive WIOA, Title II funding. It is the agency’s responsibility to keep this registration and agency information current. In many K–12 school districts, a fiscal or administrative office will maintain this registration on behalf of the entire district. Staff may not regularly check the registration unless asked by a program to do so. Please use this message as a reminder to check the SAM.gov registration for your agency and update outstanding registrations in addition to your Unique Entity ID.

January 25: Federal Webinar about the Unique Entity ID in SAM.gov

Join the federal Integrated Award Environment (IAE) for the third session in a series on the new Unique Entity ID. Register now for the session on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. EST: https:/iae-forum-uei3.eventbrite.com/

The session will walk through getting a Unique Entity ID along with an opportunity for Q & A at the end.

Next month, when you start registering a new entity, the type of registration and type of entity pages will be updated. The new look will provide customer-focused usability changes, improving the overall experience for users.

Today, you can get a Unique Entity ID from SAM.gov if you are a subcontractor or grant subrecipient who doesn’t need to complete the entity registration process. If you have a DUNS Number today and need to get a new Unique Entity ID, attend this Stakeholder Forum to learn how the SAM.gov process works.

If you have any questions, please contact your Adult Education Office Fiscal Analyst by email or the Adult Education Office by email at adulteducation@cde.ca.gov.
